How to Dye Eggs:
- To create your dye, combine 1 part dying agent (see below) and 2 parts water. Simmer for approximately 30 minutes, then strain. Add about 1 tablespoon of vinegar and chill.
- Make enough dye to completely submerge eggs. Depending on the vessel, you may need 3–4 cups of dye per color.
- Soak eggs in dye for a minimum of 10 minutes and allow to dry between each dip. The duration and number of dips will determine color depth.
Colorful Components:
- Pink/Red: Grated beets
- Orange: Yellow onion peel and turmeric (fresh or powdered)
- Yellow: Yellow onion peel
- Light Blue: Purple cabbage (shredded)
- Green: Dip egg in yellow dye, let dry, then dip in blue dye and let dry. Repeat to desired color.
And there you have it—easy, all-natural egg dying. If you’re missing any ingredients or want to experiment with other vibrant DIY dying agents (think coffee, blueberries or spinach), drop by your local Nugget Markets to get started!
