With just a few simple steps, this easy apple tart is a great recipe to make with the kids! All you need to do is slice the apples and man the oven; everything else is munchkin-friendly.
Ingredients
- 5 Granny Smith apples
- Juice from ½ lemon
- 1 teaspoon vanilla
- 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
- ½ cup brown sugar, packed
- ½ cup granulated cane sugar
- 3 teaspoons tapioca flour or corn starch
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon
- ¼ teaspoon ground cloves
- 1 package pre-made pie crust
Preparation
Preheat oven to 350°F. Line baking sheet with a piece of parchment paper.
Adults: Peel and core apples, then slice into thin wedges, about 12 to 16 slices per apple. Slice lemon in half; squeeze juice into a bowl. Add vanilla and melted butter.
Kids: Combine sugars, tapioca flour or corn starch, cinnamon and cloves in a bowl, then pour in the butter/lemon juice/vanilla mixture. Roll apple slices in mixture until fully coated.
Remove pie crust from package and unroll onto parchment paper.
Spoon apple mixture into a pile in the center of the dough. Fold the outside edges of the dough up and around the apples, leaving about a 4-inch circle of apples exposed. Use a pastry brush and brush the remaining apple juice and sugar mixture from the bowl onto the outside of the pie crust.
Adults: Bake for 35 minutes. Remove promptly and let cool for 1-1½ hours before serving. Enjoy with whipped cream or vanilla ice cream!
